The Apparel Cluster program is a vital part of the Community Development Initiative, specifically designed to support and uplift tailoring workers. This program focuses on equipping women with the necessary tools and skills to thrive in the garment industry. In collaboration with USHA, a renowned name in sewing machines, and Jaico, the official dealer of USHA sewing machines in Kerala, we have distributed over 45,000 sewing machines to women across the state. Comprehensive training classes are offered to these women, focusing on various stitching techniques and garment construction, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of the industry. Skilled workers who show interest and aptitude are then given job opportunities within the clusters formed through the program. These clusters not only provide employment but also create a supportive community where workers can continue to learn and grow. The program is implemented through Socialbee Ventures and Grassroot Impact Foundation. The textile and apparel industry in India employs over 45 million people directly, with a significant portion involved in tailoring and garment manufacturing. Additionally, the industry sustains the livelihoods of an estimated 6.5 million cotton farmers.
